DISC PAINTINGS
The conception of these paintings stems from an idea of creating planes of space in two dimensional artwork. The layers in the paintings produce a 3-D effect. Unlike traditional three dimensional work, it is viewed from one perspective. I aim to break down recognizable objects into their simplest form while still retaining the vital characteristics of the subject.

Geometric shapes are the basis for all structure and it was clear to me that this was how to achieve my vision. When laid out in a grid, circular forms create a negative space that have a push-pull effect yet retain a cohesiveness needed to form an image. The closer in proximity the viewer is, the more abstract the piece. The more distance between the viewer and the piece, the more recognizable the image becomes.

Color is vital in finding the medium between abstract and impressionistic imagery. Fewer hues mean less detail is retained while using more hues
will provide more detail. The slightest change in value can drastically alter
the image. The colors also orchestrate composition and mood as well as indicate symbolism.

All these elements are combined to establish the visual aesthetics I imagine.
